Louis, we make it a point to visit this diner whenever we’re in town. I can’t wait to have another Slinger! One important note: it’s cash-only, but they do have an ATM on site.

Being back in Missouri is a nostalgic experience, where you’re warmly addressed as “darling” or “baby” and where politeness, like saying “thank you, ma’am,” is common. I hadn’t been here since I was a child, but if you’re ever on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis, just a short distance from the Art Museum and Zoo, you should stop by the Courtesy Diner. The food, atmosphere, and décor are reminiscent of Mickey’s Diner, but the service here is even better.

This place offers a great, quick dining experience. The breakfast is cooked fast and right in front of you. Real ingredients combined with real people make for great food at very reasonable prices. We visited on a Sunday morning, and although the diner was busy, we were seated and served promptly.

We have been regulars at the Courtesy Diner for many years. In my opinion, it’s the best “hole-in-the-wall” diner in St. Louis. Our favorite location used to be on S. Kingshighway, but unfortunately, it has closed. Over the years, my wife and I have explored nearly everything on their menu. My personal favorite is the Slinger—a unique combination of flavors that’s surprisingly delicious and very filling. The burgers, Chili Mac, breakfast items—everything is fantastic! The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant stays clean, though it can get a bit messy during rush hours. However, they are quick to clean up after a table clears.
